Summary
Electric Cloud is pleased to announce the general availability of ElectricFlow 5.3, which also includes ElectricCommander 5.3 platform. This release is of the type ‘Feature Release’. For more information about types of release, please go to ElectricCommander Release Strategy.
This release is focused on extending capabilities of ElectricCommander Platform as well as ElectricFlow Deploy application. Some of the highlights are
ElectricCommander Platform
Versioning
Complete visibility into changes to objects through “Change Tracking”
Changes to all relevant objects within the platform are now tracked and versioned. This feature provides a view into the history of objects (such as projects, procedures, steps, properties, workflow definitions, applications, components) including their creation, modification and deletion. It is now possible to have complete audit of changes including who made the change, when the change was made and what the exact change was. This visibility into the change history of objects greatly enhances root cause analysis and aids in troubleshooting. In addition this helps with enterprise level auditing requirements.
Rapid troubleshooting and repair through object revert
When something goes wrong and you are triaging the root-cause it would be now possible to ‘revert’ back to a point in time to ensure continuity. All relevant changes to key objects can now be reverted to their previous state. The system also supports complete hierarchical reversion to ensure dependencies are maintained. This ability to revert significantly improves recovery time from a bad change.
ElectricFlow Deploy
Snapshots
Improved deployment success rate with Snapshots
The new Snapshot feature provides the ability to record all aspects of a deployment for comparison and reuse. By capturing exact versions of artifacts and processes, users are able to remove variance as they get closer to production deployments. Deploying using certified snapshots significantly improves success rates of deployments in controlled environment thereby reducing risk.
Identify environment drift using Snapshot comparison
With this release users can compare their current deployed application in an environment to existing snapshots, providing new value in troubleshooting and compliance needs. This allows tracking drifts in an environment from a baseline or a ‘desired state’ as captured in a snapshot. Users then can easily fix the drift by deploying again using the baseline snapshot.
Quickly rollback using Snapshots
In case of a failed deployment or defects found in latest release, snapshots allow a fast way to rollback to known good state for continuity.

Upgrade
Please note that ElectricFlow 5.3 is a ‘Feature Release’. This release is of production quality and while customers can upgrade to 5.3, please note that there will not be any maintenance release on 5.3. Customers upgrading to a feature release like 5.3 would be expected to upgrade in next 60-80 days to the next feature release or LTS release. Unless a rapid upgrade cycle is acceptable, we recommend that customers try out the new features of 5.3 in test environments instead of upgrading production environments to 5.3. This will help with faster adoption of the next LTS when it is available which will include all the above capabilities.
Customers with 4.2 or newer version can directly upgrade to the 5.3 version.
