Summary
Electric Cloud is pleased to announce the general availability of the ElectricFlow 7.0 LTS. This is a “Long Term Support” type release. For more information about types of releases, please go to ElectricFlow Release Strategy.
ElectricFlow 7.0 LTS enhances the solution across the board with several key updates to the Platform as well ElectricFlow Deploy and Release modules.
Some of the highlights are:
Remote installation and upgrade of Windows agents
ElectricFlow 7.0 extends the centralized agent management capability which was earlier focused on Linux machines to cater to remote installation and upgrade of agents on Windows machines. This significantly simplifies distribution of new agents on Windows machines as well as reduces the administrative cost of upgrading to newer version.
Ability to run Pipeline from any Stage and skip Stages
In enterprises where multiples teams are working in parallel, it is important to allow each team to run their Pipeline Stage independent of others. This makes it possible for teams to iterate on their work before promoting to the next Stage. ElectricFlow 7.0 aids team collaboration by allowing the launching of Pipelines that start from any Stage, skip intermediate Stages and end at any desired Stage.
Pipelines and Release Scheduling
ElectricFlow 7.0 introduces the ability to schedule runs for Pipelines as well as Releases in advance with support for recurring patterns. This allows users to plan their Pipeline and Release runs on a regular basis and frees them from needing to always click a button in the UI.
Component level rollback to reduce risk
Enterprise applications have varying architectures and hence need different rollback strategies as well. In ElectricFlow 7.0 the Application level rollback capability of prior versions has been enhanced to support Component level rollback so that only the failed Components are rolled back. This significantly reduces the risk and time taken when rolling back Applications where Components are loosely coupled and have no hard version dependencies.
Inline Domain Specific Language (DSL) editor
ElectricFlow 7.0 continues the DSL momentum by introducing an inline DSL editor for Applications and Pipelines. Users can now toggle between the graphical view and DSL view of Applications and Pipelines for an unparalleled authoring experience and enhanced efficiency.
Various efficiency enhancements for faster time to value
ElectricFlow 7.0 includes a number of improvements for a richer user experience.
- Multiple active Pipeline runs for a Release for improved team collaboration
- Enable/disable Pipeline Tasks for flexible authoring
- Improved support for artifacts on generic file system for faster time to value
- Improved security with newer versions of OpenSSL, Apache and PHP libraries
- Utility function for ‘Snapshot creation’ for faster time to value
Roll up of previous 6.x Feature Releases
ElectricFlow 7.0 rolls up all the features from the previous Feature Releases 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5 and makes them available in a Long Term Supported release that will have regular maintenance releases.
