Summary
Electric Cloud is pleased to announce the general availability of the ElectricFlow 7.3 FR. This release is of the “Feature Release” type. For more information about types of releases, please go to ElectricFlow Release Strategy.
ElectricFlow 7.3 FR introduces exciting new features and capabilities to enhance visibility across the system, help you quickly get started modeling and deploying, and reduce errors and ensure compliance throughout your process.
Some of the highlights are:
Dashboards for Centralized Visibility
ElectricFlow 7.3 adds an analytics layer to couple with the powerful automation platform. We have introduced a new reporting framework and out-of-the-box dashboards to provide centralized visibility across your processes. The new Release and Deploy dashboards allow you to visualize the health of your releases and how your organization is performing at a glance. They provide a view into the success/failure, frequency, throughput, and duration of your application deployments and releases; with the ability to focus on certain time windows, and filter on deployments or releases. ElectricFlow 7.3 has an additional installer to setup your reporting infrastructure, independent of the main ElectricFlow server.
New Self-Service catalog to empower end users to get started quickly
The new Self-Service Catalog allows you to expose your DevOps automation intuitively to your end users. This Self-Service Catalog leverages new, out-of-the-box best practice content (many new master component definitions, pipeline template, environment templates etc) to help you get started quickly with common tasks. You can easily add new service catalog items to make it easy for your end users to start getting value from your DevOps initiatives faster. End users can select from a catalog of templates, provide some immediate input parameters, and quickly get started with a new application model, processes, environments, pipeline or even a procedure or workflow.
Guided Tutorials help new users become productive quickly
Now it is even easier to quickly become productive in modeling your applications and pipelines in ElectricFlow. The new Guided Tutorials in the product give new users step-by-step in-product guidance for setting up common components and use cases. Each tutorial coaches you along the way, pointing to the next action to take, with detailed instructions and related content as you go.
‘Deployment Package’ to easily onboard applications from CI and other processes
ElectricFlow 7.3 introduces a new concept of a ‘Deployment Package’ to make it easy for your developers to create and deploy applications in ElectricFlow. ‘Deployment Package’ enables developers to represent their application definition as a JSON based manifest file and couple that with the artifact files. Such deployment packages can be automatically generated and imported from CI processes or manually imported using the Deployment Package Manager service catalog item. Deployment Packages add yet another option to create applications in addition to the UI, API and DSL. When a deployment package is imported, application models will be created and even deployed automatically.
Environment to Environment inventory comparison to enhance drift detection
Easily ensure fidelity of your environments and identify environment drift with new views to compare environments. During compliance audits or when troubleshooting an issue, visually compare the applications deployed on each environment, and drill down in the details to ensure there is no discrepancy.
Bulletproof deployments with Application Dependency Management
With the new application dependency management feature, you can now model and manage dependencies of your applications, with specific applications and versions they are dependent on to confirm that all dependencies are enforced during a deployment. This avoids errors by preventing a deployment from proceeding if the dependencies are not met.
Plugins
- Jenkins: A new native integration on Jenkins allows you to easily kick off your CD processes at the end of CI run. The plugin adds the ability to publish an artifact, run a process or pipeline directly from your Jenkins job.
- EC-Parasoft: Integrate Test Data Management and Data Virtualization into your deployments and pipelines for efficient and reliable releases with the new plugin with Parasoft.
- Updates and improvements to the Microsoft IIS, JBoss, Microsoft Azure, Git and HP Quality Center plugins.
