Summary
Electric Cloud is pleased to announce the general availability of ElectricFlow 5.4, which also includes ElectricCommander 5.4 platform. This release is of the type ‘Feature Release’. For more information about types of release, please go to ElectricCommander Release Strategy.
This release is focused on extending capabilities of ElectricCommander Platform as well as ElectricFlow Deploy application. Some of the highlights include:
ElectricCommander Platform
Easily provision, configure and use cloud-based servers in resource pools
Cloud server resources can now be defined and provisioned with the new Dynamic Environments feature. Resource Templates allow cloud provider credentials, instance details, and optional configuration management settings are all captured in a reusable definition. This definition can be called manually or programmatically to provision a specified quantity of cloud resources for new resource pools. This significantly simplifies on-the-fly provisioning of build servers or deployment targets on public or private cloud infrastructure. Deactivation of cloud resources is available within the enhanced Resource Pool management UI.
Enhanced look and feel for ElectricCommander UI
The ElectricCommander Platform now has a modern look and feel that is consistent with the ElectricFlow visual design. Users can navigate and complete tasks in what feels like one cohesive end-to-end experience without noticing any obvious differences. The platform and ElectricFlow Deploy product now have a seamless look and feel, which reduces inconsistency and aligns them visually, as a related product family.
Strengthened change tracking capability
Many enhancement requests by early users of the change tracking and revert capability have been incorporated.
ElectricFlow Deploy
Enhanced deployment flexibility with process parameters
With this release, authors of deployment processes can increase their level of flexibility by placing run-time parameters on application deployments. Authors can configure a wide range of parameter types (including text, radio button, checkbox, select list), set the order in which parameters are collected at run-time, and customize the user-facing labels. Once configured, users are automatically presented with a parameter input form when initiating a deployment, allowing for different deployment paths to be taken based on user input.
Seamless integration with cloud resources and dynamic creation of environments
With the new Dynamic Environments feature, ElectricFlow Deploy users are now able to seamlessly connect their cloud provider of choice with application deployments. Cloud resources are defined within Resource Template definitions and modeled into Environment Templates that are provisioned as part of an application deployment. Now customers can easily provision a new cloud environment, deploy application code, complete their necessary work such as testing, and deactivate the environment and associated cloud resources when no longer needed.
Enhanced UI flows for faster model creation and easier debugging
ElectricFlow Deploy users can easily access procedure and workflow platform capabilities needed to create deploy automation. Debugging is vastly improved by providing detailed execution information including log files from within the process run screen. This drastically reduces the learning curve for new users and improves upon the usability of ElectricFlow.
Ease of navigation with Ctrl+Click
Users now have the ability to open new screens within ElectricFlow Deploy by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Click. This allows power users to easily open new browser tabs for common areas of the product, allowing them more rapid navigation within the product.

Upgrade
Please note that ElectricFlow 5.4 is a ‘Feature Release’. This release is of production quality and while customers can upgrade to 5.4, please note that there will not be any maintenance release on 5.4. Customers upgrading to a feature release like 5.4 would be expected to upgrade in next 60-80 days to the next feature release or LTS release. Unless a rapid upgrade cycle is acceptable, we recommend that customers try out the new features of 5.4 in test environments instead of upgrading production environments to 5.4. This will help with faster adoption of the next LTS when it is available which will include all the above capabilities.
Customers with 4.2 or newer version can directly upgrade to the 5.4 version.
