Github disabling access to SSH using weak cryptographic ciphers

  • Builds are failing to clone or update a GitHub repository with an error Peer reports incompatible or unsupported protocol version. like:

> git fetch –no-tags –progress +refs/heads/master:refs/remotes/origin/master
ERROR: Error cloning remote repo ‘origin’
hudson.plugins.git.GitException: Command “git fetch –no-tags –progress +refs/heads/master:refs/remotes/origin/master” returned status code 128:
stderr: fatal: unable to access ’': Peer reports incompatible or unsupported protocol version.

On Thursday, 22nd February 2018 19:00 UTC (11:00 am PST), Github disabled access to their service using weak cryptographic ciphers.

The removal of weak ciphers is permanent.

For DEV@cloud users this means that you won???t be able to connect to GitHub over HTTPS on Fedora 17 build agents which are used by default.

To avoid this issue you can either switch to SSH authentication or use our Fedora 25 build agents as described in this article .
